Presidential Candidate Stephanie Margolis Hi! I’m Stephanie Margolis, and I am a candidate to become YOUR Student Government Association President. As a Junior, I have had ample time to make a lot of change in various communities on campus. Today,I am the President of the Panhellenic Council which is the largest women’s organization on campus.I have also been the President of the Political and Advocacy Council for the past year. I also am a part of a professional organization called Club Managers Association of America. I am active in spiritual life through Hillel. I am also the President of the Student Alliance for Israel. I was the President of Sigma Delta Tau. Through growing within RSOs and the Council system on campus, I have learned the ins and outs of the systems as well as the struggles that exist for student leaders on campus who are trying to make an impact and share their voice.
That leads right into my decision to join the Student Government Association. I want to continue to strive to represent students across campus. I started in the organization as a special assistant for the Outreach and Development Committee, and was soon interviewed and appointed to be a Senator on the same committee. The Outreach and Development Committee exists to outreach to the student body about the activities Student Government is doing as well as receive feedback and information about issues on campus from the student body. On top of this, the committee serves as a means to develop the internal relations within Student Government. In Spring 2017, I was appointed to Chair of the Outreach and Development Committee. As Chair, I spearheaded the creation of a multicultural festival in which cultural RSOs and groups on campus came together to celebrate all that the UMass student body has to offer. I also was able to empower my committee members to create their own niche outreach events throughout campus each semester. On the development side, I worked to build bridges between the different Senate committees as well as throughout the entire organization. I know my services to the student body are never ending. I want to increase visibility of student issues and work closely with Area Governments, Student Businesses, and the RSO council system to reach students individually. Colleen and I are #AllFiredUp to make the change that YOU want to see. |
Vice Presidential Candidate Colleen CoakleyThank you so much for visiting our campaign website! My name is Colleen Coakley and I am a junior Political Science major minoring in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. I am also a transfer student who transferred in my sophomore year. I currently serve as the chair for the Academic Oversight committee within Student Government Association and I am a senator for the class of 2020. In addition to SGA, I am also the Executive Director of the University Programming Council, which is the biggest event programming organization on campus. Throughout my time at UMass, I have come to realize how important the student voice is. Nothing will change unless student leaders are willing to pursue solutions to the campus’ obstacles. As a transfer student, I recognize the immense lack of resources provided to the transfer community. I targeted Residential Academic Programs as one possible solution to this ongoing issue. I worked with the RAP office and created the first transfer RAP program, which ran for the first time last semester and is running again this semester. Through the creation of this program, administration has begun to look more closely at what is being done for this group and are currently looking at restructuring NSO as well. This project embodies who I am as a student leader. My main goal is to better the lives of all students on campus, provide a voice for groups who are often forgotten and challenge existing programs/policy which fail to address the needs of individuals at UMass Amherst.
